Biocao: how to take care of your lips in a natural way
Dry, chapped lips are a frequent condition. Here are the ingredients you should not forget to take care of your lips in a natural way.
A smile is that curve that straightens everything. Taking care of our smile is really very important, and not only as a purely aesthetic matter: dry and chapped lips can be very painful and annoying! Let's see together how to do it and which ingredients cannot be missing in the care of our lips!
What are the causes of dry and chapped lips?
During winter, lips dry out very easily: cold, frost, low temperatures outside and warm, dry air inside are what contribute most to irritating and drying out such a sensitive area as the lips. But this can also happen in summer, especially after long exposure to the sun.
But why are lips so susceptible to weathering? There can be several reasons:
- Structural reason: unlike the rest of the skin, the mucous membrane of the lips does not contain sebaceous glands, a natural defence against dehydration. Lacking this layer of fat, the lips dry out faster and become more sensitive to external weather conditions than the rest of the skin.
- Vitamin deficiency: in particular, when you are deficient in Vitamin B2, you may experience cracks in the corners of the mouth and rough lips. One can therefore try to supplement foods rich in this vitamin such as avocados and broccoli.
- Bad habits: are you in the habit of running your tongue over your lips to moisten them? In the short term, the sensation is alleviated, but in the long run this habit worsens the condition of our lips: as soon as the saliva evaporates, the skin of the lips is further dehydrated and drier than before!
How to take care of your lips naturally
When we are in the very unpleasant situation of having peels, deep cracks and even splits on our lips, what we want is to solve them as soon as possible.
Beware of INCI, therefore: often unnatural ingredients such as silicones and petrolatum may give an apparent and superficial immediate state of well-being, but they do not nourish in depth an area that really needs it.
Better to adopt a routine based on natural and super-nourishing ingredients. The best natural remedies for lip care can be:
- Shea butter: you can make compresses, perhaps in the evening before going to bed. Shea butter can deeply nourish the lips
- Calendula ointment: here too, the moisturising and soothing power will soothe inflammation and cracking. Calendula in particular is able to promote wound healing.
- Vitamin E: a drop of Vitamin E delivered with shea butter helps restore moisture to the lips.
- Hyaluronic Acid: this pure Active is also capable of bringing deep nourishment. It is better not to use it pure on the lips but to convey it with a neutral cream or shea butter.
- Very rich oils such as castor oil, which, however, we do not recommend using pure on the lips because of its known laxative properties, jojoba oil, and argan oil.
Our Biocao for natural lip care
When we came to formulate our Biocao we took into consideration all the most nourishing natural ingredients for the lips.
Our Biocao products are designed to satisfy every need and make your lips more voluminous, healthy, nourished and perhaps even enlivened by a touch of extra colour, with formulas rich in precious natural ingredients to give you soft, fragrant and moisturised lips.
Real treatments designed to pamper the lips of girls, women, children and, why not... men too! As always, all based on precious natural ingredients, certified organic and 100% vegan. Our Biocao are:
Biocao Hyaluronicum: the most loved by women and men!
When we talk about Biocao Hyaluronic, we are talking about a true all-natural lip treatment, perfect for those looking for a product that can fight the signs of ageing and combat external agents such as wind, cold and heat and their unsightly effects, such as cracking and flaking! Its formula with hyaluronic acid has a powerful plumping and anti-ageing action, while a magical mix of organic oils, such as castor oil, jojoba oil and argan oil, unleashes all its nourishing and protective properties on the lips, as well as giving a volumising effect!
Biocao Hyaluronic is a lip balm with a soft, gentle and easily spreadable texture, perfect for women and men of all ages who are looking for a neutral but extremely effective product!
As we mentioned earlier in this article, it is best not to use pure Hyaluronic Acid on the lips: pure Hyaluronic Acid is on a watery basis and would have little hold on the lips. This is why it must necessarily be conveyed to a neutral cream or butter. It is possible to apply pure Hyaluronic Acid on the lips, there are no particular contraindications, but we cannot expect the pure active on its own to have as much nourishing power as it could within a specially designed formula. If we use pure Hyaluronic Acid on the whole face and want to put it on the lips as well, we can do it. But then we have to apply a cream to the face and also a lip balm or Biocao to allow the active to fulfil its role as a serum.
Biocao Pomegranate: that extra touch of colour!
Biocao Pomegranate is the favourite organic lip balm for those with particularly pale or white lips. The reason is easily said: it leaves a colourful veil on the lips and envelops them in nourishment and cheerfulness.
Ideal for those looking for a make-up - no make-up product, that intensifies the natural colour of the lips, making them radiant, revitalised and volumised... without stress and without lipstick!
Its all-natural formula is based on Vitamin E and Pomegranate Oil, which have an anti-ageing and anti-oxidant action, fighting free radicals and external agents, while Jojoba Oil nourishes, soothes and moisturises the lips to make you feel protected, as well as beautiful!
A lip balm with a soft, gentle and easily spreadable texture, perfect for those looking for a product that can give volume and character to their lips, making them full and healthy, without having to renounce hydration and protection!
Biocao Albicoccolo: ideal for the little ones and the whole family!
Biocao Albicoccolo is a true natural cuddle, perfect for the lips of little ones and for those seeking extra protection that soothes and moisturises in depth! Its formula based on Apricot Oil has a powerful soothing and nourishing action, while Castor Oil and Shea Butter provide the lips with nourishment and protection, making them visibly healthy and moisturising as well as protecting them from damage from external agents.
A lip balm with a soft, sweet and easily spreadable texture that will delight children and everyone who is young at heart! Thanks to its sweet fruity taste it will give your smile a ray of sunshine, even in the middle of winter.
The lip routine for smiles always at their best
Let us now see together how to build a lip routine with natural remedies to always have smiles with nourished, moisturised and glowing lips.
When we have dry and chapped lips, it can be helpful to act like this:
- make a lip scrub once a week: it's really easy to do, anyone can make their own lip scrub! Here's a very simple recipe: just combine 2 teaspoons of honey and 2 teaspoons of brown sugar, mix well in a jar with a chopstick until the two parts are well blended and then apply with very gentle circular movements on the lips. This will remove the skin and moisturise thoroughly. You can find the full recipe with more details on our recipe blog.
And for those who want a vegan recipe, the alternative is just as simple! Simply mix 2 teaspoons of vegetable glycerine with 2 teaspoons of brown sugar. As an alternative to sugar, coffee grounds can also be used! - make a compress of Shea Butter or Calendula Ointment at night before going to sleep: in this case, simply apply plenty of the chosen product to wake up with nourished and soft lips.
- apply Biocao in the morning as soon as we wake up and at all times of the day when we feel the need. If we often suffer from cuticles and dry lips, we can opt for Biocao Albicoccolo because its protective and soothing action seems to be what we need most. Or if we also want an anti-ageing action, we can choose Biocao Hyaluronic or Biocao Pomegranate for a touch of nourishment and colour.
This routine can also be followed when we do not have a particularly inflamed or dry situation, although in this case the steps of lip scrub and butter or ointment pack can be skipped or repeated less frequently.
Don't forget to drink
If we often suffer from dry and chapped lips, perhaps even dry skin in general, what we should remember to do most often is to drink! Experts not by chance recommend drinking at least 2 litres of water a day. If we find it difficult to drink a lot of water, we can opt for unsweetened teas, infusions and herbal teas or centrifuges.
How to apply lipstick when your lips are dry
With very dry and chapped lips we should avoid lipsticks: we could opt instead for Biocao Pomegranate for a touch of colour anyway! In any case, if we don't want to give up lipstick, we can do a gentle peeling by passing a soft toothbrush over the chapped lips, or by doing the lip scrub mentioned above. Then we can apply a generous dose of Biocao, our favourite of the three. Among the various lipsticks, we choose a moisturising one, avoiding opaque lipsticks if our lips are still very dry. It is best to apply the colour with the help of a lip brush, so that the colour is uniform.
