What to do if you have frizzy hair? The perfect beauty routine for your hair

All hair types have a common enemy: frizz! But what is it? How can it be dealt with? In this article, we reveal what to do if you have frizzy hair, and the secrets to finally having it disciplined and defined.

The much-hated frizzy effect is a very common problem that plagues not only those with curly hair, but also those with straight, thin hair and those who, in general, subject their hair to aggressive treatments.

Frizzy hair is dry, brittle, dull and rough to the touch, puffy and unruly, difficult to manage.

Let's take a look at what you can do to improve the situation of frizzy hair and keep this unsightly effect at bay.

The causes of frizz

•    Genetic factors: like many things, frizz, caused by the lifting of hair cuticles, may simply be a consequence of genetic factors. If any of your family members have always complained of the same problem... well, take comfort in the fact that at least you’re in good company!

•    Lack of hydration: the main cause of frizzy hair is the lack of hydration. In a humid environment (think rainy days!), dehydrated hair will be inclined to absorb the moisture in the air, causing the hair cuticles to expand and causing the famous frizzy effect; in a dry environment, or after an excessively hot jet of air, the hair will dry out completely and lose definition, creating those little clouds of hair that look ruffled and messy, like straw!

•    Aggressive procedures and treatments: another cause of frizzy hair is dyeing, perms, bleaching and all those treatments that can damage the hair structure, as well as the use of a hairdryer and hot tools such as curling irons and straighteners, which stress the hair, making it dry and dull.

•    Factors related to physical and psychological health: poor nutrition, fatigue and physical or psychological stress can also affect the hair, drying it out and making it brittle.

What to do to combat frizzy hair?

To act effectively against frizz, it is necessary to use specific products, preferably with natural, non-aggressive active ingredients.

Especially for curly or wavy hair, the drying and styling phase is also essential to keep hair defined, voluminous and frizz-free for longer.

To achieve defined and natural curls, you can also follow the Curly Girl Method

Washing

Firstly, frizzy hair should not be washed too frequently and using shampoos that also remove the hair's natural oils.

Removing natural lubricants will only make the hair drier and more brittle, making things worse!

It would be ideal to wash your hair twice a week, including specific treatments and masks, using anti-frizz masks and conditioners that have excellent moisturising power and protect it from humidity.

Drying

Once washed and nourished, before drying it is very important not to rub the hair in the towel, but only to dab it, gently removing excess water.

Take care not to brush your hair too vigorously, especially when wet, and use a wide-toothed wooden comb to limit breakage as much as possible and make the hair easier to comb.

It would also be ideal to avoid using a hairdryer and let your hair dry in the open air, as it is often the jet of hot air that causes frizz.

Try wrapping your hair in a microfibre cloth and leave it for a couple of hours until it is completely dry. Your hair will be dry and defined without being stressed by heat sources.

If you are in a hurry? Try to use the hair dryer at a distance of about 10 to 15 cm and at a medium temperature!

Styling

When choosing a product for styling frizzy hair, be it a mousse, serum or cream, you should opt for products without alcohol, because while it’s true that it stays on our hair for a very short time, once it has evaporated, it makes it even drier and frizzier.

If you are looking for a quick fix, make a braid or a ponytail and leave your hair in this hairstyle for a few hours... once loose, your hair will have a natural, defined style!

If you want to protect your hair even while you’re asleep, use a scarf or a neckerchief to wrap your hair during the night...it will be free from humidity and the elements, and ready to shine even first thing in the morning!

To also avoid the 'electric hair' effect, opt for pillowcases made of natural fabric, because synthetic fabrics electrify it!

The beauty routine

As you may have guessed, following a beauty routine specific to the needs of your hair is of paramount importance! Besides changing those little bad habits, it is very important to know how to choose the right products!

A complete beauty routine includes a scalp pre-treatment, a hair pre-treatment, a specific cleansing product, a scalp treatment, a hair treatment and a specific styling product!

1. Scalp pre-treatment

Detox Scrub

If our scalp is not healthy, our hair is unlikely to be shiny and beautiful... that is why it is very important to take care of our scalp before our hair... because shiny hair has its roots in a healthy scalp!

This scrub is perfect for deep cleansing, removing dead cells, reinvigorating the scalp and achieving shiny hair.

The chicory prebiotic strengthens the natural microbiota in our skin, helping to restore balance and prevent dandruff. The natural extracts of mint and nettle purify and stimulate the skin and follicles, and the aloe gel and witch hazel have a moisturising and soothing action. The hemp oil and argan oil soften and strengthen the hair, while the Vitamin E and natural bisabolol soothe and pamper the scalp.

acido-jaluronico-capelli-1

We recommend that you use this product once a month.

Moisten the hair, apply this product to the scalp and massage the scalp with your fingertips, applying extra pressure over the ears, the nape of the neck and the centre parting. Let the microgranules and natural extracts go to work, so they can help remove dead cells, toxins and unpleasant thoughts!
Leave on for a few minutes, rinse and then wash your hair as normal.

2. Hair pre-treatment

Pre-shampoo treatments can be very useful to hydrate dry hair. They can be done once a week, with light, specific oils such as:

Argan Oil

This precious nourishing oil, rich in natural antioxidants (Vitamin E) and Omega 3-6-9, brings shine to dull and brittle hair, with an anti-frizz effect!

Use it as a pre-shampoo mask to hydrate and nourish your hair.

If you also have weak and brittle ends, a few drops will boost shine and help prevent damage caused by the heat of the hairdryer.

Linseed Oil

Thanks to its softening and repairing properties, linseed oil can be used to treat dull and brittle hair, leaving it soft and shiny.

Useful for combating split ends, it brings body and nourishment to dry, frizzy hair.

It is rich in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids and saturated fats such as stearic and palmitic acid, as well as vitamin C and vitamin E.

Linseed oil also contains numerous minerals, especially magnesium and calcium, but also potassium, zinc, iron, manganese, copper, phosphorus and selenium.

Use it for a super-nourishing and disciplining pre-shampoo mask!

You can use it pure or with the addition of a few drops of lemon essential oil to remove frizz and leave your hair shiny and silky.

4. Hair treatment

Disciplina solid conditioner

Discipline is a solid conditioner rich in active ingredients and very easy to use. It contains spirulina, extremely rich in vitamins and mineral salts, which makes hair stronger, while the lemon leaves it light and shiny! The coconut oil brings strength and vitality to even the driest and most damaged ends, while Omega 3-rich linseed oil regenerates even the dullest and frizziest hair. The special acid pH of this conditioner seals the scales of the hair and combats frizz, leaving the hair soft, shiny and perfectly detangled.

•    your hair is dull
•    your hair is oily and gets dirty quickly
•    your hair is frizzy and untamable

The cardboard and plant-derived film packaging can be disposed of in the waste bin. It is totally zero waste and plastic free and its formulation is super concentrated! 40 g of Disciplina solid conditioner is equivalent to 200 ml of traditional conditioner! The Discipline Solid Conditioner is an excellent last acid rinse!

Leave-in organic conditioner with Moringa and Flaxseed oil

Dedicated to hair in need of nourishment, this restructuring cream pampers it, leaving it soft and silky!

Shea butter, moringa extract (also known as the miracle plant) and linseed have a nourishing and restructuring effect, while fruit oligosaccharides form a protective and anti-stress film, boosting softness, vitality and shine.

Ideal on curls, helps combat frizz and is a must for the ends of the hair.

Use this conditioner both after shampooing, on towel-dried hair, spreading it well over all the lengths, and on dry hair.

Luce Hair Wondermask

Happy, shiny hair guaranteed at last, thanks to the natural active ingredients in this hair mask with moisturising and strengthening super-powers!

The Babassu oil, combined with argan and natural hydrosaccharides pamper each strand from root to tip, boosting hydration and softness, while the jojoba oil gently moisturises the hair without weighing it down, making it easier to discipline and manage!

Inner_luce

The effect of the mask is enhanced by the amla and chamomile extracts that strengthen and go to work on the cuticles, while the chicory prebiotics boost our scalp's natural defences, giving the roots an extra shot of energy, for bright, soft, healthy, supple hair!

Apply this mask to your hair after shampooing and leave it on for 5 minutes, rinse and... may the hydration be with you!

5. Acid rinse

For frizzy, dull hair, a final acid rinse is especially useful. After washing your hair with shampoo and conditioner, you can add this step to seal the hair spores well and boost shine.

Washing the hair with a final acid rinse will restore its correct pH, which can be altered by the calcareous composition of tap water. Acid rinsing can be done with lemon juice: a teaspoonful of lemon juice in one litre of water is sufficient, but doses can be customised depending on the length of the hair and the amount of water needed for rinsing, so we recommend testing by starting with a minimum quantity and then gradually increasing the amount.

It can also be done with a hydrolate of your choice. In this case, simply spray the hydrolate directly on damp hair, without further rinsing with water. A particularly suitable hydrolate for dry hair can be:

Orange Blossom Hydrolate

This hydrolate invigorates, soothes, refreshes and regenerates the epidermis.

6. Styling

Curl Reviving Cream

If you have curly or wavy hair, you can use this cream: a leave-in treatment designed to tame even the wildest hair, shape and fix curls, fight frizz and strengthen and soften your hair, making it shiny!

A rich mix of natural ingredients boosts the strength, elasticity and shine of your hair, and Babassu nourishes and disciplines it; the chicory prebiotic helps restore its natural balance, the hydrosaccharides and the aloe gel hydrate in depth, and the fenugreek (or methi) makes the hair shiny and silky.

For beautiful curls, apply it to damp hair, rubbing the strands with the palm of your hand from the bottom towards the roots. Dry naturally or with a diffuser. For a final touch, you can also apply it on dry curls.

Aloe Gel

A true elixir with a balance-restoring, hydrating and softening action. Thanks to its antioxidant and detoxifying properties, aloe goes to work on the hair shaft, purifying, restructuring and strengthening it. Ideal if you want to reduce frizz, hydrate, nourish and define curls.

Apply a little aloe vera gel to your hands after washing your hair, and apply it to your hair while squeezing your curls between your fingers.

Liquid Crystals

These plant liquid crystals are a true beauty elixir for nourishing, protecting, disciplining and silkifying the hair, and are particularly suitable for straight hair, even fine hair, because they are very light

We created them by mixing fantastic organic coconut, linseed and hemp oils with argan oil produced by a women's cooperative in Morocco, to nourish the hair without weighing it down and make it shinier than ever.

You can use Plant Crystals after shampooing on damp hair to make it soft and manageable, or on dry hair to fix the style, tame frizz and boost shine.
